Comfrey Cottage is located in Lady Grey, which is situated in a valley below the majestic Witteberg mountain range.
Comfrey Cottage, Porcupine’s Place, Robins’ Nest and Apple Crumble: four charming country cottages set in a park-like garden at the foot of the mountains in Lady Grey, each with its own distinct character, beautifully renovated and decorated to enhance your country experience. Comfrey Cottage is fully equipped for self-catering or you might prefer to let us spoil you with sumptuous meals in our licensed guest dining room. Bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms provide a cosy retreat for the weary traveller. Relax under the trees; stroll along our riverside walk while you savour the fresh country air; meander through the orchards, herb and vegetable gardens; or join others in our guest lounge to share tales and experiences.
You could just relax in Comfrey’s garden and watch the abundant birdlife, or be more adventurous and head into the mountains or up Joubert’s Pass to spot some of the over 200 species that have been identified. A visit to the Vulture breeding colony at The Gorge is another special outing where you have the opportunity of viewing these impressive birds.
We offer guided trips up Joubert’s Pass in open 4X4 vehicles. Trips can be tailored to your needs but generally take about two to three hours. On these trips we will introduce you to the alpine plants and interesting geological features of the Witteberg. The wild flower season usually lasts from September through to April/May, with the best months most often being December to February depending on rainfall. By contrast, the peaks are often under snow during the winter months.
