Description:
De Oude Herberg is Cape Dutch & a declared National Monument. Set in the quiet and tranquil historic Church Street in Tulbagh.
There are four double bedrooms, all have ensuite bath/shower rooms and are air-conditioned. Each room is equipped with coffee and tea making facilities, hairdryers, ceiling fans and radiators. The bed linen is of top quality and the towels are white and soft! All rooms are Non-Smoking.
Two rooms are inside the main house, with the other two being in the cottage, located in the garden, a short distance from the house.
The rooms have been decorated carefully to match the style of the house and offers airconditioning, fans, & heaters. There is a tray with coffee,tea & biscuits plus a complimentary small decanter of local port in the rooms.
Montpellier is situated in the main house. It has an entrance off the main hall and another from the front terrace. The room consists of a queen size, four poster bed and is decorated in 'Out of Africa' style. The bathroom has a Victorian bath with an overhead shower.
Also in the main house is Twee Jonge Gezellen, consisting of two rooms and decorated in traditional English style. One room has a queen size bed and the other a single bed. Both rooms share the same bathroom, which has a Victorian bath and overhead shower. There are two entrances to the rooms - one from the front terrace and the other leading directly to the pool area.
Twin Rooms:
Just a short distance from the main house and set in the same garden is the Cottage, containing two bedrooms with ensuite bath/shower rooms. There is a small sitting area between the two rooms making it ideal for a family of four or two couples travelling together. However, this does not detract from the privacy, should the rooms be occupied by different parties.
The rooms, Lemberg and Theuniskraal, are decorated in simple country style and are twin bedded. In addition to the communal sitting area, there is a sitting area outside in a small private garden, close by the pool area.
All four rooms are quiet and restful during the day and at night.
The Inn also offers a sun-drenched swimming pool, surrounded by a courtyard and shady areas in which to sit and relax, either on the verandah or under the vines.
A comfortable sitting room is available to relax in and a sheltered and quiet courtyard with a swimming pool to cool by.
A delicious breakfast is served starting with fresh fruit, choice of yogurts, dried fruit compote & cereals followed by a cooked breakfast of eggs cooked the way you like and served with sausages, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes & toast. Fresh coffee and tea to follow.
There is a licenced full bar at which wines from the area are available.
From September to May there is a first class restaurant 'in house' called Pielows which serves a comprehensive A la Carte Menu.
As the restaurant is closed in the winter we advise and book our guests into the various nearby restaurants for lunches and dinners.
Tulbagh is a wonderful place to visit and enjoy the beautiful valley which offers wine tastings at the various medal winning vineyards, trips to olive farms, treking, horse riding or just gentle walks through the spectacular scenary.
There are museums, art galleries and restaurants to please everyones tastes.
