Description:
Franshoek Mountain Lodge lies in a secluded valley in the heart of the Eastern Free State. Located in the foothills of the majestic Maluti Mountains, ours is a dramatic landscape of sheer sandstone cliffs, which give way to gentle green slopes scattered with an abundance of wild flowers.
The lodge is surrounded by an area of exceptional beauty with caves and waterfalls to explore, dams to fish in and walking trails to please everyone from the casual stroller to the serious hiker.
With only ten rooms, we provide an intimate, easy going, family friendly lodge which appeals to all generations. The heart of the lodge is a charming, thatched sandstone building where guests can relax at the bar or enjoy a delicious meal prepared by our Thai chef. On the cooler evenings, a roaring log fire creates the perfect atmosphere for an evening of games or music and many guests find themselves getting to know strangers who end up as enduring friends!
The bedrooms are situated in the old farmhouse which is attached to the lodge and each has its own access to our beautiful gardens which are home to a menagerie of unusual creatures.
Up behind the guest buildings is a spectacular, sandstone edged swimming pool. In the evenings we fire up our African Steam Hut where you can detox and take a dip in a truly remarkable setting. The pool area is enclosed, so parents can relax, knowing that their children are safe. Babysitters can be arranged and baby monitors are available.
The lodge prides itself on its well stocked library and a treatment space where therapies such as Thai massage and hypnotherapy, Indian head massage and Reiki are available by arrangement.
Our neighbouring property is a private game reserve called Thaba Thabo. Game viewing is available by private arrangement and the Bushman paintings are well worth a guided hike.

Thaba Thabo game farm is our neighbouring property - enjoy watching the game either from safari vehicle, on horseback or on foot.
