Situated at the foot of the legendary Ghost Mountain near Mkuze, in picturesque northern Zululand, lies the Ghost Mountain Inn. This privately owned Country Inn is the gateway to the cultural, historical and ecological wonders of Maputaland and is an excellent stop-over en route to Mozambique, Swaziland and Mpumalanga's Kruger National Park.
The Inn is within easy reach of the major game and coastal resources of KwaZulu-Natal, where you can explore a variety of activities such as game viewing, outstanding bird-watching, inland tiger-fishing, deep-sea fishing and diving.
To help you explore the wide variety of ecosystems in the area, the Ghost Mountain Inn Safaris is at your disposal with ideas on where to go and what to do, and can arrange day trips throughout the region.
The Ghost Mountain Inn offers a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with en suite facilities, TV, telephone, air-conditioning and garden patios. It also boasts the Ndumu Conference Centre, which caters for groups of up to 60 people. Exciting programmes can be tailor-made to suit any type of conference.
The Ghost Mountain Inn offers 52 guest rooms, including 32 Standard rooms, 19 Executive Rooms and a large Suite. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, television, telephone, air conditioning, hair dryer and tea and coffee making facilities.
Our Suite is a spacious room. Beautifully decorated and with King sized bed, a separate living room and dressing room, large free bathroom with freestanding bath and an outside shower.
The Executive Rooms have recently been built and have upgraded linens, bathroom with a separate shower, bath, and DSTV. These rooms have great views across the gardens towards the Lebombo Mountains.
Standard rooms are still comfortable. They are the original rooms of the hotel, typically a bit smaller with showers in the bath.
The furnished patios offer guests a peaceful place to sit and enjoy the surrounding nature. Each guest room has been tastefully decorated to give a residential feel with a touch of Africa.
Activities in the area:
Game drives are available to Mkuzi Game Reserve and private game ranches in our custom-built open safari vehicles.
Only 16km from the inn, Mkuzi Game Reserve is a bird-watcher's paradise.
Highly recommended is a walk through the fig forest where sycamore fig trees tower amongst fever trees and the haunting cries of trumpeter hornbills create a surrealistic scene in one of the rarest forest types in South Africa.
To round off the day, spend the late afternoon elephant tracking in the Pongola Game Reserve, or delight in the thrill of hooking a tiger fish in the waters of Jozini. The Ghost Mountain Inn is a useful base from where several 4x4 trails are arranged into this spectacular region.
Vehicles can be hired through the hotel. Maputaland offers an unforgettable opportunity for visitors to retrace the paths of past traders, explorers, pioneers and tribesmen, to view traditional homesteads amongst the rural tribal communities and to revel in the area's unspoilt beauty.
Why not go south to Lake St Lucia and Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, or north to Ndumu Reserve or Tembe Elephant Park, which is home to the last truly wild elephants of southern Africa, or view the traditional fish kraals at Kosi Bay?
A trip eastward will lead you to Lake Sibaya or Sodwana Bay, where endless stretches of pristine golden sand hug the coastline of Maputaland and some of the best snorkelling and scuba diving reefs are to be found. These areas can be visited independently, as a "self-drive" exercise, if preferred.

The Ghost Mountain Inn provides good food and friendly service. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served on the terrace or in our air conditioned Restaurant.
There are two bars on the premises; Tshaneni outside on the terrace and Mtwazi which is air-conditioned and has DSTV to catch up on sporting fixtures.
