An exceptional retreat, this gracious country house offers superb accommodation, excellent cuisine and perfect tranquility, along with personal warmth and care that is associated with true inn keeping.Valemount nestles in the serene surroundings of Underberg, which overlooks the Umzimkhulu valley of the Southern Drakensberg, a world heritage site.
The Lodge is two hours drive from Durban and six hours from Johannesburg, access directly form the R617 to Kokstad.
A small, hospitable team happily cater to the individual requirements of our discerning patrons. Guests can enjoy a variety of activities including fly fishing, birding, walking, petanque and croquet. Golfers will enjoy a selection of three scenic golf courses nearby.
Valemount Country Lodge is set in beautiful gardens which blend into 48 ha of natural riverine bush an woodland. Guests can enjoy leisurely walks on the property, ramble up the trails or relax under the shade of our old gracious trees surrounding the Lodge.
The Lodge sleeps sixteen guests in four comfortable bed and breakfast rooms and four luxurious suites. A limited number of up-market self-catering accommodation is available for groups of two to four guests. Our self-catering accommodation is serviced daily and linen and towels are provided.
The luxurious suites are a popular retreat for honeymooners and couples alike. Each suite has a kingsize bed, jet master fireplaces and romantic Victorian bathrooms.
Sumptuous breakfasts are served in the diningroom daily and three course dinners are catered for by prior arrangement.
The Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, a world heritage site, is a paradise for the adventure seeker and outdoor enthusiast, whether one wishes to relax and admire the prolific bird life or partake in one of the many adventure activities in the area, the Southern Drakensberg is the place to be.
Any visit to the Southern Drakensberg would be incomplete without a memorable 4x4 adventure up the world famous Sani Pass. Sani Pass is the only road link between KwaZulu-Natal and the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho and the only road that crosses the summit of the high Drakensberg. In summer wild flowers splash the road margins with colour and in winter iced falls sparkle under brilliant skies. DO NOT FORGET YOUR PASSPORTS!!!
For the less adventurous traveler, the Southern Drakensberg offers numorous other activities. For the enthusiastic flyfisherman, the area offers some of the most pristine flyfishing waters in South Africa. Golfers will enjoy a selection of three scenic golf courses nearby.
Horse lovers will enjoy various outrides in the foothills of the Drakensberg. During the summer rainfall months, the Umzimkhulu river offers the adventure seeker the opportunity for excillirating river rafting.
Walks and hiking in the Cobham and Garden Castle reserves cater for the novice and experienced hiker.
