Description: A unique blend of luxury, nature and wildlife overlooking Lifton Lake.
Sani Valley Lodge is a unique blend of luxury, nature and wildlife. Overlooking a 260 acre lake at the foot of the spectacular Drakensberg, Sani Valley Lodge offers you total privacy, refinement, tranquillity and an extensive range of exciting activities.
Sani Valley one of te few "Complete Customized Service". We are small and exclusive enough to be able to adapt our offer to your very own needs and interests. You can opt for the Dinner, bed & breakfast option where your pre ordered meals will be delevered to your lodge for you to enjoy in the privacy of your own dining room, or if you are the spontaneous type you can simply bring your own food and cook it yourself when it suits you.
Lifton lake (The lake at Sani Valley) has some of the most sought after still water "wild trout" trophy fishing in the Drakensberg.
This new luxury full or semi-catering accommodation concept gives you a private and highly personal experience with unobtrusive lodge services. You are left to relax in your exclusive private home which is serviced daily. You may choose a cook to prepare your meals for you, or, if you wish, you can choose to cook your own meals using your chalet`s modern kitchens.
All the lodges offer a spacious and open lounge/dining room/fully equipped kitchen. Whether in your bedroom or in the lounge, you simply have to step out through the large sliding door onto the private verandah to get a panoramic view of the lake and the spectacular Drakensberg mountains. In winter you will particularly enjoy the comfort of cosy fireplace in the lounge, electric blankets, overhead heating along with heated towel rails in the bathrooms. Yet, despite all this comfort Sani Valley retains a true and relax country atmosphere.
With total privacy in mind, every lodge has been individually decorated. Luxury crisp fabrics, hand-embroideries, cotton linen, hand-painted lithographs and marble finishes are just a few of the details that complement the beauty and the tranquility of the area.
There are 4 different accommodation setup to suite your specific needs.
Rainbow Lodge with 3 bedrooms. Bushman Lodge with 2 bedrooms. 3 Sunset Lodges with 1 bedroom each. 3 Lakeside Lodges with 1 bedroom each.
Trout Fishing:
Sani Valley offers you Lifton lake which has been producing trophy fish of the highest quality for the last 20 years along with two smaller dams which are both well stocked with rainbows and browns. Fishing for trout is a gentlemans sport, and we at Sani Valley are strong supporters of catch and release and all anglers are to kindly read and adhere to our newly introduced fishing regulations. Trolling for trout is frowned upon.
Fishermen are kindly asked to fill in the catch register before they leave. Fishing tackle can be hired or purchased from reception
Game Viewing:
The Sani Valley conservancy has been stocked with game indigenous to the area. Please be careful when entering this area. A game guide is available to you during your stay and we suggest you take advantage of his knowledge of the mountains and the diverse game that roam the area. (See activity sheets for guide game drives)
Although the animals introduced are of a passive nature it must be understood that they are "?wild" and can be dangerous. They should be respected as such at all times.
Hiking in the Mountains:
Areas outside our boundary fences are either privately owned or controlled by the Kwa-Zulu Natal Parks Board.
Should one wish to hike in these areas, we offer guided walks into various areas of the National Reserve.
This can be arranged through our chief ranger and accredited guide, Mkhize. All relevant hiking permits can be obtained from reception. For your safety and enjoyment in the Drakensberg please read the hiking regulations in your lodge folder.
Horse Riding:
Horse riding can be arranged at a neighbouring property, which our staff will arrange for you on request.
Boating:
Fishing boats and canoes must be booked in advance at reception should you wish to make use of them. Life jackets must be worn in the case of non-swimmers. Guests are welcome to bring their own boats and motors so long as they are less than 15 hp engine capacity, however, motors are available for hire at a small charge. Guests must be briefed by our staff on how to operate the motors before using them.
Birding:
Sani Valley is visited by many of the endangered species including Grey Crowned and Blue Cranes and the very rare Wattled Crane. Bald and Sacred Ibis are often seen while the elegant Secretary Birds have made their home in a lone tree in the conservation area. Raptors and water birds abound. A guided birding tour up the Sani Pass can be arranged should you desire. (See Sani Valley bird list at reception)
Sani Pass Tours:
Tours up the famous Sani Pass can be arranged for your party. The pass climbs to an altitude of 2874m into Lesotho. The dramatic drive rises some 1330 metres in six and a half kilometres. Weather permitting this is well worth the trip. Should you have a 4X4 vehicle you may wish to drive the pass yourself (Passports are essential.)
Drinking Water:
Water from the mountain springs is mostly clear and potable. However, on occasions, due to heavy summer storms, the water sometimes becomes murky. Your lodge is therefore stocked with crystal clear drinking water from one of our mountain spring.
