Description:
Chestnut Bush Lodge is situated next to the Crocodile River, which is the southern border of the Kruger National Park.

We are situated between the Malelane gate and the Crocodile Bridge gate into the Kruger National Park. We are in the heart of "BIG 5" country.

Chestnut Lodge is situated on the banks of the Crocodile River, which is the southern border of the Kruger National Park. With no fences between the Kruger Park and us, all animals are free to roam onto our property.

We have large luxury air-conditioned double rooms. Satellite TV is available should guests wish to watch TV whilst in the bush.

All the rooms are spacious with full air-conditioning.

Guests are welcome to relax in the TV lounge to enjoy a live sports event or a wildlife program.

All meals are prepared in a large open plan kitchen.

We have an indoor pool to relax in during the day or enjoy a drink in the pool before bed.

We also have an outdoor pool and tennis court available.

Enjoy a few cold ones at the Bar with the game feeding only metres away.

We have four of the "BIG 5" resident on our reserve.

We do not have elephants resident in our reserve, but we find them in the Crocodile river. The Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport is only an hour's drive from us. We do transfers to and from the airport if required. This eliminates the self-drive/guided transfer from Johannesburg International Airport for international guests.

Our daily rate is R445 per person sharing per day. This includes two local game drives plus dinner, bed and breakfast. Dinner is a three course meal and breakfast is a buffet.

We awaken just before dawn to the early morning "noise" of the bushveld. After refreshments, we depart on a three-hour morning game drive to search for the "Big Five" and the many other varieties of mammals, birds and flora. This area is host to 147 mammal and 507 bird species. The morning gamedrive leaves at firstlight and returns three and a half hours later. During this drive, we stop at several lookouts along the river and enjoy early morning coffee on the banks of the Crocodile river.

For the energetic, we offer a bush walk to identify trees and birds. Even the beginner will find this exciting.

After the game drive, we return for a scrumptious breakfast.

You are now free to spend the afternoon at your own leisure. You may wish to birdwatch from the lookout, relax by the pool, sleep or enjoy a wildlife video.

The afternoon gamedrive leaves as soon as the heat of the day has broken, normally around 15:30 to 16:00, depending on the season. On this gamedrive we travel along the Crocodile river in search of those animals, which we missed in the morning and stop for sundowners at sunset. Snacks will be served prior to our departure on the afternoon game drive.

On our return, we freshen up and settle down for a typical South African dinner under the African skies, with a wide variety of Cape wines available.

All meals are prepared with individual guest tastes taken into account. Alcohol is excluded from daily rates.

Detailed itineraries may be viewed at the end of this page under our Tours and Safaris. Any of the activities listed on our Tours and Safaris page may be taken as individual outings.
