Heilbron is a small farming town in the Free State province of South Africa which services the cattle, dairy, wheat, sunflower and maize industries.
In 1836, the Ndebele Chief Mzilikazi fought off the invading Voortrekkers at Vegkop near here. During the early years of it's history, several Jewish citizens of Heilbron played an important role in developing the town. Many of the streets in Heilbron are thus named after Jews ( for example, 'Tanner Street' is one of the busiest streets in the town). The old synagogue has been converted into a agricultural museum.
